STANSBURY PARK – The Stansbury Stallions had never started 3-0 in the four years they’ve existed, but that changed Friday night as the Stallions took care of a Delta team they had never beaten, 27-7. Chase Christiansen was unstoppable for the Stallions offensively, rushing for 186 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, including a 99-yard run, the longest play in school history. Christiansen also tossed two touchdowns, one each to Jaron Moon and Austen Kincaid, while throwing for 100 yards - the first hundred yard passing game of his career.
“It feels fantastic,” said Christiansen with a smile. “We knew they were a tough team; they always are. We had a little bit of adversity, we fought through it, and we're 3-0."
Christiansen wasn’t the only Stallion to have a great game. Sophomore Zayne Anderson got the start at safety in place of an injured Alex Mackay. Anderson recorded ten tackles and intercepted a pass late in the third quarter that set up a touchdown when the Stallions led by only seven points.
“I was nervous the first play, but I calmed down after that” Anderson said. “It was a lot different than playing JV, but we’re 3-0 for the first time, and we’re excited for Bear River next week.”
The game started off slow with both teams deadlocked at zeros until the 3:35 mark in the second quarter.
Despite several long drives, including one that lasted 13 plays, the Rabbits were unable to get the ball in the end zone.
Finally somebody got on the board late in the second quarter. After being backed up onto their own one-yard line, the Stallions were able to score in just two plays. Christiansen took the ball straight up the middle and raced 99 yards to the end zone, putting the Stallions up 6-0 just before the half, and setting a school record for the longest play in the history of Stansbury High School.
After the Stallions turned it over on downs, Delta took over at the Stansbury 40. The Rabbits took the ball 40 yards in 11 plays, capping the drive off with a one-yard touchdown run by Ezra Seui to put the Rabbits up 7-6.
History looked as if it would repeat itself once again until Christiansen came up with a huge play. On just the first play of the drive, last year’s Region 11 MVP took the ball 63 yards to give the Stallions the lead for good. After a successful two point conversion, the Stallions led 14-7 and never looked back.
Anderson recorded his interception two drives later. Following the interception, Christiansen found his tight end Austen Kincaid for a 24-yard touchdown pass to give the Stallions a 21-7 lead.
“It was lots of fun,” Kincaid said. “It was a great experience. I’m so happy for this team, our school, our fans and everybody else.”
Christiansen found Jaron Moon for a 48-yard touchdown the next drive, and the game was over.
The 3-0 Stallions start Region 11 play next week against Bear River, while Delta drops to 0-3 on the year and will face Region 12 opponents Park City.
