SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz will have fans opening their wallets and purses for their newest, old jersey.

Rumors have been going around for months the Jazz could have a throwback jersey this year. That rumor was verified Wednesday by Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio, who played the largest part in the reveal.

On September 13, Rubio sent out a tweet that peaked Jazz fans’ curiosity.

> I saw the new jersey for this year. It’s 🤩🤩🤩🔥🔥🔥🤪🤪🤪. You know what I mean right? They don’t let me tweet a pic yet 😤 [@UtahJazzPR](https://twitter.com/UtahJazzPR?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) > > — Ricky Rubio (@rickyrubio9) [September 13, 2018](https://twitter.com/rickyrubio9/status/1040232931547963392?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Speculation pointed towards purple throwback jerseys, but nobody knew for sure (outside of people within the Jazz’s organization). That ended on Wednesday when the first “little” hint was leaked out by Rubio on his Instagram story:

Jazz fans didn’t miss the hint; and after only a couple of hours of anticipation, Rubio made the official reveal.

Rubio wasn’t the only one who got in on the fun of showing off his new threads. Utah Jazz players [Donovan Mitchell](https://twitter.com/spidadmitchell/status/1042531562791698432), Rudy Gobert, Derrick Favors and Jae Crowder all shared their new look on Instagram and Twitter.

The new question among Jazz fans is when and where can they purchase one of these new jerseys? That question, though, will have to wait to be answered. But Jazz star Donovan Mitchell [teased fans](https://twitter.com/spidadmitchell/status/1042549078343733249) with the following tweet.

> These jerseys will go on sale............................................................eventually😂😝 > > — Donovan Mitchell (@spidadmitchell) [September 19, 2018](https://twitter.com/spidadmitchell/status/1042549078343733249?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Last season, the Jazz had four official Nike jerseys: Association Edition, Icon Edition, Statement Edition and City Edition.

The City Edition jerseys ended up being a huge hit last year and sold out quickly. The Jazz had about 300 City Edition jerseys that went on sale on January 23, a week before they played the Golden State Warriors in the debut game for the jersey and court. All 300 had sold out within the first 72 hours. Jazz President Steve Starks tweeted on March 7 that “The response has been unlike anything we’ve ever seen as they became the fastest selling Jazz jersey in history.”

The Jazz will be keeping all of last years jerseys and adding the throwback to the 2018-19 season.

But Utah may not be finished. In the past, teams playing on Christmas unveil a special jersey for that day. Time will tell if the Jazz will be introducing a sixth jersey for 2018.
