The following was submitted by Adam Poulsen.

"Doug was my AP calculus teacher in high school for the 2003-2004 school year. Looking back now I realize what a great person it takes to manage little teenage personalities as we try to find our way through adolescence.

When I went back to college in 2016 I had a terrible time in one of my math classes. I contacted Doug and without hesitating he spent days out of each week over the summer helping me understand the concepts I wasn't picking up in class. I would work by his desk while he prepared things for school to start in the fall. When I had questions he would stop what he was doing to lend me his expertise, and then go back to cleaning rental calculators, tightening fasteners on the desks, and updating lesson plans to account for new books and changes to curriculum.

He didn't need to help me. I was more than ten years out of high school and hadn't been his student for a long time. I can't even say that I was a great student for him when I did belong in his class. Doug loves teaching and cares about his kids, even after we've been gone for a while. I can't think of a better person to nominate for the Zions Bank Teacher Feature than Doug. Thanks Doug, you've made it possible to move my family's life in a positive direction."
