TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama baseball coach Mitch Gaspard has resigned after failing to make an NCAA regional the past two seasons.
Athletic director Bill Battle said Monday that he and Gaspard met last Friday to discuss the season. Battle says that's when Gaspard said he wanted to step down.
Alabama says Gaspard told his team and staff of the decision Monday afternoon. He was 234-193 in seven seasons with the Crimson Tide including four regional appearances.
Alabama opened a new baseball stadium this season.
Gaspard says he believes "a good foundation has been set for whoever takes over the program."
