SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Gary Akbar scored 20 points, Billy Dee Williams added 16 more and Division II Texas-Permian Basin held off Texas-San Antonio for a 90-85 win Sunday night.
Johnnie Lacy pumped in four 3-pointers and Tramique Sutherland had 10 points, including a pair of free throws and a layup in the final 27 seconds to cement the win. Permian Basin lost the rebounding battle 44-28 but took control from behind the arc, hitting 12 of 32 while holding UTSA to just 4 of 15.
The Falcons carried a 40-35 advantage into the break but UTSA (1-6) closed an 11-point gap in the second half with a 3-pointer from J.R. Harris to cap a 14-3 run and tie the game at 78 with 4:08 left. UTSA tied it again at 80 before the Falcons reclaimed the lead for good.
Ryan Bowie led UTSA with 27 points and 13 rebounds.
