BIARRITZ, France (AP) — Taxes on tech giants and a French wine dispute are on the menu at a special dinner with top White House and French officials at the G-7 summit. A French official says French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire invited U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, U.S. trade representative Robert Lightizer and White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow to dinner Sunday night in the French resort of Biarritz. U.S. President Donald Trump is dining with other world leaders nearby.

TOKYO (AP) — Asian shares are tumbling after the latest escalation in the U.S.-China trade war renewed uncertainties about global economies, as well as questions over what President Donald Trump might say next. Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225, and benchmarks in Australia, South Korea and China all fell. Market players are finding it hard to understand Trump's actions, adding to investor jitters.

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong police drew their guns and fired a warning shot after protesters attacked officers with sticks and rods, and brought out water cannon trucks for the first time, in an escalation in the summerlong protests that have shaken the city's government and residents. Some protesters said they're resorting to violence because the government has not responded to their peaceful demonstrations. Police said they arrested 36 people, including a 12-year-old.

BIARRITZ, France (AP) — It is hard to tell where President Donald Trump stands on tariffs. He has taken back remarks that suggested he regretted stepping up his trade war with China. In France for Group of Seven economic meetings, Trump was asked by reporters if he had any second thoughts about escalating the trade war. Trump responded, "Yeah. For sure" and said he had second thoughts about everything. The White House later said that Trump only regretted not raising tariffs higher.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — U.S. lobster exports to China have fallen off a cliff this year as new retaliatory tariffs shift the seafood business to Canada. China, a huge and growing customer for lobster, placed heavy tariffs on U.S. lobsters in July 2018 amid rising trade hostilities between the Chinese and the Trump administration. Canadian fishermen catch the same species of lobster as American lobstermen, who are based mostly in Maine.
