BIARRITZ, France (AP) — President Donald Trump is pointing to a powerful if obscure 1977 law that he says allows him to follow through on his tweet ordering U.S. businesses to cut their ties with China. The International Emergency Economic Powers Act has been used to target rogue regimes, terrorists and drug traffickers. The act gives presidents wide berth in regulating international commerce during times of declared national emergencies. While engaged in a trade war with China, Trump has yet to declare an emergency.

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Brazil's military is joining the fight against fires that are sweeping parts of the Amazon, sending troops and water-dropping aircraft as the outbreak of blazes draws international criticism and anti-government protests at home. The first of 44,000 troops earmarked for the operation went to the Amazon on Saturday as President Jair Bolsonaro sought to allay global concerns by saying that the fires have burned only previously deforested areas and intact rainforest has been spared.

BIARRITZ, France (AP) — French authorities have detained 68 people taking part in a tense protest near the G-7 summit. The regional administration says those detained are accused of throwing projectiles, concealing their faces or possessing objects that could be used as weapons. Police fired tear gas, water cannon and dispersion grenades at a crowd of about 400 mostly peaceful anti-capitalism demonstrators Saturday in the town of Bayonne. The regional administration says no injuries were reported in the skirmishes.

BIARRITZ, France (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and EU Council president Donald Tusk threw barbs at each other as world leaders convened at the G-7 Summit Saturday. Both leaders warned the other not to be known as "Mr. No Deal" as the UK struggles to reach a Brexit deal with the EU and avoid a so-called no-deal situation, which could interrupt food and medicine supplies.

ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police say six people were injured when lightning struck a 60-foot pine at the Tour Championship, showering the area with debris. The third round of the season-ending PGA Tour event had been suspended for about 30 minutes because of storms in the area, and fans were instructed to seek shelter. The strike hit the top of the tree just off the 16th tee and shattered the bark all the way to the bottom.
