SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's Senate president says state troopers have closed an investigation into a lawmaker's strange encounter with a woman outside his hotel room without determining who the woman was or what happened.
Senate President Wayne Niederhauser said Thursday that Utah's Highway Patrol, which provides security to lawmakers, reviewed surveillance footage from the Salt Lake City hotel where Republican Sen. Evan Vickers says a woman knocked on his door and insisted she was his "date."
Niederhauser says troopers were unable to identify the woman and it's possible she went to the wrong hotel room.
He initially warned lawmakers the Feb. 8 incident could have been an attempted "entrapment," because it came the day after the Daily Mail reported allegations that former Republican Rep. Jon Stanard twice hired a prostitute in 2017.
Utah's Highway Patrol did not return a message seeking comment.
