YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Leaders of the private entity that fundraises for Youngstown State University are crediting the school's president for helping to boost donations.
The (Youngstown) Vindicator reports (http://bit.ly/29XxM29 ) that the YSU Foundation has raised $20.5 million in private gifts during the fiscal year that ended last month. That's more than the $13 million for 2015 and $6.2 million reported in 2014.
The increase comes after Jim Tressel, a former head football coach at Ohio State University, became president of Youngstown State in 2014.
Paul McFadden, the foundation's president, says Tressel's impact on fundraising has been "profound."
Tressel points to an increase in the number of the foundation's development officers as a reason for the boost in donations.
The university transferred its fundraising responsibility to the foundation in late 2014.
