MIAMI (AP) — The parents of two high school students who were fatally shot in two separate incidents in Miami have received posthumous diplomas for their sons.
WFOR-TV (http://cbsloc.al/1AJVP1b ) reports the parents of 18-year-old Pedro Uriarte and 16-year-old Bryan Herrera were given diplomas Tuesday at Miami Jackson Senior High School's graduation. The families sat together, wiping away tears as they waited to receive their sons' diplomas.
Uriarte was fatally shot while walking by an elementary school near Wynwood on November 30, 2014 by an unknown assailant in an apparent robbery. Herrera was riding his bicycle to a friend's house to do homework December 22, 2012, when he was struck by one bullet and killed.
Jackson's principal, Carlos Rios Jr., alongside Miami Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, honored the teens' parents with the diplomas.
