SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho man has pleaded not guilty after he was charged with firing a gun at people walking along a road.
The Bonner County Daily Bee reports that 75-year-old William J. Juettner was charged with a misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm at a person without causing harm following an incident on Thanksgiving Day.
Deputies responded on Nov. 23 after a man walking with a family outside Samuels told authorities Juettner came out of a home with a revolver.
The man said in court documents that he could hear the hammer striking an empty chamber as Juettner tried to fire the gun.
The documents say two gunshots were fired and the group left the area.
Juettner told authorities that a trespasser confronted him.
Court documents say Juettner said he fired out of anger into the darkness with a .38-caliber pistol.
Juettner could face up so six month in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. A jury trial is scheduled for March.
