OGDEN — As Weber State prepares for its final non-conference game of the regular season, attending fans of Saturday’s game will attempt to break a world record for its groundbreaking ceremony for its new football athletic building.
Though construction began more than two weeks ago, Weber State will conduct its groundbreaking ceremony for its forthcoming athletic complex in advance of Saturday’s game against South Dakota, beginning at 6 p.m.
The ceremony, which starts at 5 p.m. and aims for a world record in terms of fan participation, encourages each fan to take a turn with the shovel. According to the Standard-Examiner, the Guinness World Record for such an event is 6,256 people, and is held by the MLS’ San Jose Earthquakes.
When completed, the 27,000-square foot building, located on the north side of Stewart Stadium, will be outfitted with new football coaches offices and meeting rooms, as well as modernized locker and equipment rooms. Serving as the football program’s headquarters, the building will also become the main entrance to the stadium.
