IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams have signed veteran quarterback Dan Orlovsky.
The Rams announced the deal Wednesday while players began reporting to training camp at UC Irvine.
Orlovsky is the third quarterback on the Rams' roster. He is likely to compete with Sean Mannion for the backup job behind No. 1 draft pick Jared Goff.
Orlovsky is entering his 13th NFL season with his fifth franchise. He spent the past three seasons as Matthew Stafford's backup with the Detroit Lions, throwing 40 passes in two games in 2015.
The 33-year-old UConn product also began his career with Detroit, appearing in a career-high 10 games in 2008. He was drafted by the Lions in 2005, when current Rams quarterbacks coach Greg Olson was his offensive coordinator and position coach.
