SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say an officer injured in a shootout at a Salt Lake City apartment complex that left one man dead was wounded by friendly fire.
The Deseret News reports Salt Lake City police clarified during a press conference Monday evening that the officer was wounded by another officer who fired his gun, not the man who was killed.
Police were called to the building Monday afternoon on a "psychiatric problem."
Officers said the man who was the subject of the call pulled a weapon on police when they arrived. One of the officers fired his gun at the man, killing him and wounding another officer. The officer has been treated and released from a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No information about the victim has been released. Unified Police is investigating the incident.
