HURRICANE — Authorities have identified a 13-year-old boy who died Wednesday during a UTV accident in Sand Mountain's off-highway vehicle area near Sand Hollow State Park.

Malachi King-Castro, of Denver, Colorado, was a back-seat passenger in the UTV and was wearing his seat belt when the vehicle crashed, according to an emailed news release from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.

He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities do not believe he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

King-Castro was visiting the park with his family when the accident happened.

The division extended its “condolences to the friends and family impacted by this incident,” the release said.
