Utah has one of the highest rates of Autism in the nation. Nearly 1 of every 58 children born in Utah is on the autism spectrum, that’s 13 percent higher than the national average. The vast majority of services and resources are directed toward supporting children, but many adults on the spectrum struggle to get the support they need to lead successful and independent lives. ScenicView Academy is a transitional school for adults with autism and other learning differences. They support their students with obtaining and maintaining gainful employment, developing independent living skills, engaging in meaningful social relationships, progressing in their academic abilities, and understanding and engaging in productive leisure time. On May 4, ScenicView Academy is hosting a first-of-its-kind AutCon that will feature presenters and panelists on the autism spectrum sharing their expertise and personal experiences. The event will also feature a resource fair of services, a Lego room, sensory room, and much more. SelectHealth recognizes the critical role provided by the ScenicView Academy as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
