LOGAN (AP) — Koby McEwen scored 24 points and Utah State opened its Mountain West Conference season by beating San Jose State for the 21st straight time, topping the Spartans 86-72 on Wednesday night.

The Aggies are 33-4 all-time against San Jose State at home and have beaten the Spartans 25 straight times in Logan. Overall, they've beaten the Spartans in 27 of the last 28 meetings.

Utah State left little doubt how this one was going to turn out, racing to a 44-28 lead by intermission.

The Aggies (7-6) shot 33 of 70 from the field (47.1 percent) and knocked down 12 of 33 attempts from behind the arc.

Sam Merrill hit 4 of 8 from distance and finished with 18 points. Dwayne Brown Jr. added 16 points and Diogo Brito scored 11.

Ryan Welage led San Jose State (3-8, 0-1) with 22 points and Jaycee Hillsman scored 18.
