DRAPER — Jake Jensen scored his third touchdown of the night on the final play of the game with a 2-yard run to help Pleasant Grove rally for a 19-16 win at Corner Canyon on Friday’s opening weekend of the 2016 high school football season.

Jensen opened the scoring with an 11-yard TD strike to Dayne Christiansen, but Corner Canyon took a 16-12 lead on Jason Adams’ 9-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.

Adam Chandler returned a blocked kick to help the Chargers pull within five, 12-7 at halftime.

South Summit 35, San Juan 26: At Kamas, quarterback Nick Beasley threw three of his four touchdown passes to Parker Grajek to help the Wildcats top the Broncos.

Beasley had a 6-yard run for a score to end the first quarter leading 14-7 and added TD throws of 5, 13 and 20 yards to Grajek to pull away from a 21-19 halftime lead.

Beasley also ran for a 6-yard touchdown in the first quarter and added a 17-yard scoring strike to Brandon Dansie to seal the game in the fourth.

Kavika Su’esu’e ran for four touchdowns to pace the Broncos.

Herriman 26, Brighton 16: At Herriman, Noah Vaea had two touchdowns and an interception to help the defending 5A champion Mustangs ease past the Bengals in the season opener.

Vaea’s 15-yard touchdown run — his second of the game — midway through the third quarter helped Herriman pull away for good. June Leakehe added a pair of TD runs for the Mustangs.

Sione Lund scored twice for Brighton.

Jordan 28, Desert Hills 21: At Jordan, Crew Wakley tossed three touchdown passes, including two to Isaiah Jackson, to help the Beetdiggers hold off the Thunder in an intra-classification scuffle.

Jordan jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead, but Desert Hills responded with 14 points in the second half to pull within a possession. Walker’s second strike to Jackson, a 46-yarder in the fourth quarter, proved to be the difference.

Lone Peak 31, Bountiful 13: At Bountiful, Dakota Hansen scored twice and Lone Peak’s defense held the Braves scoreless through three quarters en route to the road win.

BYU commit Jackson McChesney added a 1-yard TD run for Lone Peak, which led 31-0 entering the fourth quarter.

Easton Allsop had a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Braves.

American Fork 31, Hunter 21: At Hunter, Bronson Barron found Ashton Coleman for three of his four touchdowns to pace the Cavemen by the Wolverines.

Jake Cluff nailed an 18-yard field goal to give American Fork a 17-0 lead, but Hunter rallied with two quick scores to pull within 17-14 at halftime before the Cavemen held on.

Olympus 28, Cottonwood 8: At Olympus, Sawyer Pierce completed 14 of 21 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns to help the Titans pull away with a second-half defensive shutout.

Ammon Sole’s 62-yard TD strike to Gabriel Hagerman gave the Colts an 8-7 lead in the second quarter, but Olympus outscored the visitors 13-0 in the second half to clinch the victory.

Highland 49, Mountain Crest 25: At Hyrum, James Pembroke scored three touchdowns and the Rams jumped out to a 35-0 lead and cruised past the host Mustangs.

Keone Tupuola scored three touchdowns for Mountain Crest.

Springville 37, Dixie 21: At Dixie, the Red Devils erupted for 20 points in the third quarter in the road victory.

Brennen Rymer scored a pair of touchdowns for Springville, and Ty Ericsson tossed two TD strikes to help the Red Devils pull away.

Jacob Barben’s second TD run of the game pulled the Flyers within 16 in the fourth quarter, but it was as close as they would get.
