Sacramento State holds off Utah Valley 65-56

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Nick Hornsby made all eight field goal attempts to total 20 points and Sacramento State held on for a 65-56 victory over Utah Valley on Monday night.

Mikh McKinney added 13 points for the Hornets (4-1) who have won four straight after dropping their opening game to Gonzaga.

Sacramento State had a comfortable 59-46 advantage with 8:27 remaining, but the Wolverines made a late charge. Trailing 62-47 with 5:15 left, Brenden Evans slipped in for a layup, Zach Nelson nailed a 3-pointer, and Mitch Bruneel had a layup and two free throws to close to 62-56 with 2:17 remaining. Hornsby answered with a free throw and McKinney made a layup to secure the win.

The Hornets shot a blistering 65.2 percent from the floor in the first half, and finished with 25 of 44 (56.8 percent) for the game.

Bruneel led Utah Valley (3-3) with 15 points.
