SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah high school state playoffs for football have started, so let's take a look ahead at some of the games to watch across all classes this coming week.

6A (Round One)

Cyprus at Fremont (10/26, 7 p.m.)

With both teams sitting at 7-2 records, this game shapes up to be one of the best first-round matchups as Cyprus travels to Plain City to take on Freemont. Cyprus is coming into the game on a three-game winning streak, winning the last three by an average of 28 points. Fremont nearly went undefeated in region play, with just one loss coming at the hands of top-seeded Weber High School. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals and play the winner of East High School and Pleasant Grove.

West Jordan at Lone Peak (10/26, 4 p.m.)

West Jordan and Lone Peak have had nearly opposite seasons. West Jordan started the season strong, going 4-1 through its first five games. The tail end of the season wasn’t as promising as they went 1-3 to finish the regular season 5-4. Lone Peak, on the other hand, started off the season winning every other game to begin 3-3. They seem to have turned it around, rattling off three straight wins to finish the season 6-3. Can West Jordan return to early season form to stop the Knights? But Lone Peak being undefeated at home doesn’t bode well for the Jaguars. The winner will move on to face either Hunter or Davis in the quarterfinals.

5A (Round One)

Timpview at Highland (10/26, 4 p.m.)

Two very good teams will be matched up as Timpview travels to face Highland. Both teams only lost two games in state. Timpview lost an additional game this year to out-of-state St. John Bosco, who is ranked No. 1 nationally. Highland finished the year on a three-game winning streak and went 7-1 in their final eight games. Timpview has looked dangerous on the road this year and has gone a perfect 4-0 on the road in Utah. Will they be able to travel to Highland and squander the Rams’ season?

Lehi at Jordan (10/26, 4 p.m.)

Jordan finished the season on a roll. They won five straight before narrowly losing to undefeated Corner Canyon the last week of the season. Lehi also finished the season strong, winning four of its last six games. Things didn’t look good for either team at the beginning of the year, with Lehi starting 2-4 and Jordan 1-3. The two teams were able to turn their seasons around and now they end up meeting for this compelling matchup. Either Lehi or Jordans’ season will come to an end after a year full of adversity.

4A (Round One)

Pine View at Logan (10/26, 4 p.m.)

Pine View of St. George is traveling up north to face off with Logan, and I t will be a tough task for Pine View to pick up a win. Logan is undefeated at home at 9-1 overall. A big part of the reason Logan is so good is their defense only allowing 21 points per game. That will all be put to the test when Pine View’s potent offense comes to town, averaging a ridiculous 46.6 points per game. By every account, this looks to be a classic offensive versus defensive battle. Will Logan be able to slow Pine View down, or will Pine Views’ high-flying offense overpower Logan?

Salem Hills at Park City (10/26, 4 p.m.)

After starting out the season 2-4, Salem Hills seems to have gotten things on track, winning their last three games. Park City has won seven of its last eight. Both teams seem to be trending in the right direction, but only one team can advance to the next round. The most concerning stat for Salem Hills should be their inability to win on the road. They are 1-4 on the road and all three of their recent wins were at home. On the other hand, Park City is 4-1 at home. Can Salem Hills overcome their road struggles and upset Park City?

3A (Quarterfinals)

Juan Diego Catholic at Grantsville (10/26, 5 p.m.)

After crushing rival Judge Memorial last week, Juan Diego moved on to the next round to face Grantsville, who had a bye in the first round. Grantsville has dominated all year and sits at 8-1. They are undefeated at home but Juan Diego will hope to change that. Oddly enough, Juan Diego is a much better team on the road. They have a losing record at home, but on the road are 4-1. This game will be huge as the winner advances to the semifinals. Juan Diego will look to pull off the upset on the road, but can Grantsville continue its stellar play and fend off Juan Diego?

2A (Quarterfinals)

Millard at San Juan (10/26, 4 p.m.)

Two of the best teams in 2A meet Friday. Millard is 8-2 and they are visiting San Juan who is 6-3. The winner will advance to the semifinals. San Juan had won five straight before dropping their final game of the regular season to Grand County, while Millard has won four of its last five games. Millard dominated North Sevier in the first round 38-7. Now they take that momentum on the road to San Juan who had a bye last week. Will San Juan be able to defend their home-field advantage and advance to the semifinals?

1A (Quarterfinals)

Kanab at Duchesne (10/27, 3 p.m.)

From the outside looking in, this looks like a blowout waiting to happen. Kanab is 2-8 and is on a five-game losing streak coming into this game. On the flip side, Duchesne is 6-4 and has won its last three games. Things are not as one sided as they appear, though. The two teams faced off earlier in the year and Duchesne won, but it was not a walk in the park; the final score was 14-6. A one-score game is something Kanab would be happy to work with after a long season of losses. The winner will advance to the semifinals.
