OREM — Behind the stellar pitching of Riley Otteson, American Fork shutout the Jordan Beetdiggers 6-0 to advance to the next round in the 5A State baseball playoffs.

Jordan pitcher Morgan Gomez was pitching well, until the sixth inning. An inning where just about anything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

Gomez gave up a single to Alec Shultz, loaded the bases, hit A.F. batter Emmett Green in the head to force in a run, walked in another run, then gave up a two-RBI single to his counterpart, Otteson.

Gomez would leave the game in the sixth, giving up six runs, five of them earned.

Six runs were overkill for Otteson who threw a gem. Otteson faced just 23 batters in a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out a dozen and walking just one.

Otteson has a good chance at being this year's Mr. Baseball.

American Fork will play Copper Hills on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark in Orem.
