SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah got their first ever win over a Top 5 team at Rice-Eccles Stadium Saturday, upsetting the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal. While the team played well as a whole, it was running back Bubba Poole that earned this week's Player of the Week.
Player of the Week:
Bubba Poole, RB, Utah
Saturday's game was Poole's second career 100-yard rushing game, carving through what is normally a stingy Stanford defense. Poole added a career high 75 receiving yards for 186 total yards in the Utes' huge upset over No. 5 Stanford.
Honorable mention:
Alani Fua, LB, BYU
A junior from San Francisco, Calif., Fu recorded a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown, to go along with a pass breakup and two solo tackles, in BYU's 38-20 home win over Georgia Tech. Fua's pick-six runback came with BYU leading by 11 and the Yellow Jackets driving in the fourth quarter; the interception helped seal the outcome by putting the Cougars up 31-13 with 11:01 to play in the game.
Nevin Lawson, CB, Utah State
A career high 9 tackles and two interceptions, with one interception returned 65 yards for a touchdown in Utah State's loss to Boise State.
