WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats are struggling with the best response to a Republican president who so brazenly ignores protocol and presidential norms. A whistleblower's complaint over President Donald Trump's interactions with a foreign leader is testing their power _ or lack of it. Democrats were unanimous in their condemnation of Trump. But even as calls for impeachment amplified, there were no signs that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would move quickly to try to impeach the president.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In the weeks after three high-profile shootings in three states took the lives of more than two dozen people in one week in August, law enforcement authorities nationwide reported a spike in tips from concerned relatives, friends and co-workers about people who appear bent on carrying out the next mass shooting. But identifying and predicting who the next shooter will be is challenging for authorities.

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombia's leader says "brutality" of Nicolás Maduro must end and that any aggression by Venezuela's armed forces would immediately trigger a regional response, possibly including additional sanctions and diplomatic actions. Ivan Duque was speaking in an interview Saturday with The Associated Press before traveling to New York.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Five people remain in critical condition after a bus crash that killed four Chinese tourists near a national park in Utah. Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street said Friday evening that the bus originated in Southern California, and the tourists on board were natives of mainland China. Up to 15 people suffered injuries that were originally considered very critical, but the condition of several passengers has improved in the hours since the crash.

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Democrats were quick to back working-class United Auto Workers in their strike against General Motors, delivering doughnuts and holding picket signs outside factories to show solidarity. It's a union they long have aligned with politically. Republicans have been more neutral. Led by President Donald Trump, GOP officials have largely avoided taking sides in the strike. Most Republicans said little about the substance of the dispute beyond hope for a speedy resolution.
