SAO PAULO (AP) — The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists is urging Brazilian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the killing of journalist Joao Miranda do Carmo, who was shot to death Sunday in front of his house in the central-western state of Goias.

Police told the G1 news portal that two men drove up to the home in the small town of Santo Antonio do Descoberto and called out do Carmo's name. When he opened the door they shot him seven times in the chest and drove off.

Do Carmo edited SAD (Santo Antonio do Descoberto) Uncensored a news website that reported on problems affecting the town, such as the lack of paved streets and trash collection services.

His stepson told G1 that do Carmo had received several death threats.
