JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — The Jackson Town Council is considering ordinances that would offer more protection to renters.
The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports (http://bit.ly/2h5RCQy ) that if passed, ordinances proposed last week would compel landlords to repair or maintain their properties; would require that leases automatically renew month-to-month after an initial rental agreement, giving tenants warning if they are to be evicted; and would also require notice before rent increases.
The proposed protections come as the town's housing market continues to tighten.
Former Teton County Housing Authority Executive Director Christine Walker says very little housing supply is on the market and even more housing stock is being lost to second-home owners and vacation rentals. Tenants who are told to leave their homes will find few options to replace their housing.
