LAS VEGAS (AP) — A fire official says it'll take time to determine what caused a fire that destroyed a large commercial warehouse overnight just west of the Las Vegas Strip.
Clark County Fire Chief Gregory Cassell said Thursday that flames were leaping 50 feet above the building when firefighters arrived just after midnight in the industrial area west of the Harmon Avenue overpass and Interstate 15.
Cassell says no one was injured, but 30 animals had to be rescued from a pet motel in an adjacent building.
Las Vegas firefighters were also called to help quell the fire in a 20,000-square-foot structure.
Cassell says it nearly collapsed as it burned.
It wasn't immediately clear what was in the warehouse. The fire chief says damage estimates are still being calculated.
