ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say an 11-year-old boy was bitten by a shark as he surfed off the coast of North Carolina.
Multiple media outlets report the boy was taken to a local hospital after he was bitten Saturday afternoon near Fort Macon state Park in Atlantic Beach.
Atlantic Beach Fire Chief Adam Snyder told WCTI that the boy suffered "deep wounds" to his left foot. WNCT reported the boy's injuries weren't life threatening.
Snyder said the beach wasn't closed after the boy was bitten.
The boy was the second person bitten by a shark in Atlantic Beach this summer. Earlier in June, authorities said an 18-year-old suffered bites to his hands and wrist after being bitten in 3-foot-deep water.
