NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A student was shot and killed Monday during a burglary at a fraternity house near the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the university president said in a statement.

Joseph Micalizzi, 23, of Freehold, was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later at University Hospital, the Essex County prosecutor's office said.
"This is a tragic time for the student's family, friends and the entire NJIT campus and we extend our thoughts and prayers to all affected," Bloom said. "There is no imminent threat to NJIT's campus."
Micalizzi was a member of the fraternity, and the mechanical engineering major was in his second year at NJIT after transferring from Brookdale Community College in Monmouth County. He made the dean's list in the fall, Bloom said.
The investigation into the second fatal shooting of a college student in New Jersey's largest city in less than a month was ongoing and no arrests have been made, the prosecutor's office said.
"We are saddened to hear about the shooting of a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon that happened at NJIT," said Alex Baker, a spokesman for the fraternity's national organization. "We are still working to learn the details of what occurred and both the men at the Kappa-Eta chapter and International Headquarters will fully cooperate with the police investigation."
NJIT and the Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers program each offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the successful prosecution of whoever is responsible.
Details on a service for the slain student were not yet available.
NJIT has 11,325 students who mainly pursue degrees in science and technology. Counselors were made available to students and faculty members.
The fraternity is across the street from the Rutgers-Newark campus, near where a Rutgers student was shot and killed in a double shooting last month.
Shani Patel, of Toms River, was gunned down inside an off-campus apartment. The 21-year-old's roommate, who graduated last year, was wounded. No arrests have been made in that shooting.
