THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — Lafourche teachers could benefit if a Baton Rouge judge rules in favor of local school boards in their lawsuit against the state.
The Daily Comet reports (http://bit.ly/1zOt77W) the Lafourche School Board voted unanimously Wednesday to join St. John the Baptist Parish and 43 other districts in suing over the way the state distributes money to local school systems.
At issue is money from the state's K-12 education superfund, the Minimum Foundation Program.
If there is a ruling for the school boards, Business Manager Don Gaudet says Lafourche would receive nearly $6 million. That would be $2.4 million for 2012-13 and $3.5 million for 2013-14.
