HINKLEY, Millard County — A 2-year-old boy died Sunday after he was in an accident with a horse, according to officials from the Millard County Sheriff's Office.

The boy’s father had taken him off the horse and was tending to the animal when something spooked it and it stepped onto the toddler’s chest, Sheriff’s Lt. Rob Clark said Monday.

The accident happened at the family’s private horse-riding arena about 7:25 p.m., Clark said.

Responders worked on the boy for about one hour before he was pronounced dead, he said.

The boy's name was not released.
