WASHINGTON (AP) - The United States and British governments are creating a task force to target online child sexual exploitation.
The initiative aims to work with the technology industry in both countries to help dismantle international pedophile networks. The two governments say they want to identify the most serious crimes against children involving misuse of the Internet and find technical solutions.
British official Damian Green says the challenge is to tackle offenders who use more sophisticated technology, often referred to as the "dark web," to commit their crimes and hide their identity. Green is the U.K. Minister for Policing, Criminal Justice and Victims.
The initiative comes at a time when government surveillance is a major political issue in both countries because of disclosures by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.
