SALT LAKE CITY (October 27, 2008) - Utah Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor announced today that the team has requested waivers on guard Gerry McNamara. With the move, the Jazz set its opening night roster for the 2008-09 season at 15 players.
McNamara (6-2, 182, Syracuse), who was signed on September 29, appeared in four preseason games with the Jazz, averaging 2.5 points and 0.5 assists in 7.3 minutes per contest. The undrafted rookie free agent most recently played professionally in Latvia before joining the Jazz prior to training camp.
The Jazz returns 13 of 14 players from last season's team that won the Northwest Division title and advanced to the Conference Semifinals. The only additions to this year's squad are first-round pick Kosta Koufos (23rd overall in 2008 Draft), and veteran point guard Brevin Knight, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers on July 23 in exchange for Jason Hart, the only Jazz player not to return.
