LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming strong safety Andrew Wingard has been named the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the week.

Wingard had nine tackles, including six solo, and one interception and two pass breakups in a 28-21 overtime win over Hawaii last Saturday.

His biggest play of the game came in the third quarter when he intercepted a Hawaii pass on the Cowboys' own 2-yard line to end a scoring threat for the Rainbow Warriors.

Wingard earned First Team All-Mountain West honors as a sophomore in 2016.
