DETROIT (AP) — Justin Verlander is officially headed to the 15-day disabled list, after the Tigers decided to make the move last week. The right-hander has a strained right tricep. Verlander says he's not very concerned about the problem and hopes he'll only miss one start.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — All-Star third baseman Josh Harrison has reached agreement on a long-term contract extension that will keep him with the club at least through the 2018 season. The 27-year-old had a breakout season last year, finishing second in the National League with a .315 batting average while finishing ninth in the MVP race.
NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has hired Sarah Thomas as the league's first full-time female game official. She will be a line judge for the coming season. The 41-year-old Thomas has already broken ground as the first woman to work college games, the first female official on the FBS level and the first to officiate a bowl game.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Bucks have unveiled a preliminary architectural design for a $500 million arena, that they hope will be the centerpiece of an entertainment district. The Bradley Center would be demolished under the plan to make way for a new mixed purpose space around the new 17,000-seat arena and plaza.
NEW YORK (AP) — Atlanta Hawks Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha (tah-BOH' sehf-ah-LOH'-shuh) have been released after their arrests for allegedly blocking officers from a crime scene. They were arrested after Indiana Pacers player Chris Copeland was stabbed outside a club early this morning.
