AMHERST, N.Y. (AP) — University at Buffalo coach Nate Oats has hired former NBA guard Lindsey Hunter to his staff.
Hunter won two NBA championships during a 17-year career before eventually getting into coaching. He was the Phoenix Suns' interim coach in closing the 2012-13 season, and then spent the following year as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors.
Hunter was selected in the first round of the 1993 draft by Detroit, and also played for the Lakers, Toronto, Milwaukee and Chicago.
He fills the job on Oats' staff previously held by Donyell Marshall, another former NBA player. Marshall left Buffalo after being hired as Central Connecticut State's head coach in April.
As a first-year coach, Oats led the Mid-American Conference Bulls to their second straight NCAA Tournament berth last season.
