UAB beats Alabama A&M 41-14 on Vinson's 5 TDs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — D.J. Vinson ran for a career-high five touchdowns to lift UAB to a 41-14 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday.

Vinson had 106 yards on 25 carries for the Blazers (2-1). Cody Clements threw 18 of 23 for 228 yards.

Vinson scored three rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, taking UAB from a 14-point deficit to a 21-14 halftime lead. He and Ja'Won Arrington combined for three more UAB touchdowns in the third period to finish out the scoring.

The Bulldogs (1-2) went up 14-0 on a 77-yard punt return by Rashad Anderson late in the first quarter and a Brandon Wells 57-yard touchdown pass to Octayvius Miles early in the second.

From then on, it was all Blazers, who scored 41 straight points.

Wells was 8 of 22 for 166 yards and a touchdown for the Bulldogs and was intercepted three times.
