OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Northwest Division champ Oklahoma City opens NBA playoff action at home against Dallas tonight. The Mavericks head into the series having won seven of their final nine games, and never giving up more than 98 points in that stretch. OKC won all four games between the two during the season.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist hopes to be back on the ice for Game 2 of the playoff series with Pittsburgh this afternoon after taking a teammate's stick to the eye in the Game 1 loss. Lundqvist looked sharp during an hour-long practice session Friday, saying there are no apparent issues with his eyesight despite continued swelling.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Saying he was glad to be back home, Chris Beard has been introduced as the new head basketball coach at Texas Tech. The former Red Raiders assistant coach accepted the job, just a week after agreeing to be head coach at UNLV. Beard takes over from Tubby Smith who left Texas Tech to take over at Memphis.
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — Jason Day is the only one in the top 10 in the field for the RBC Heritage golf tournament and he's taking advantage of it. The world's top-ranked golfer heads into today's third round tied for the lead with Kevin Chappell and Charley Hoffman.
MONACO (AP) — Eight-time champ Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL') will take on Gael Monfils (GAH'-ehl mohn-FEES') for the title in the Monte Carlo Masters. Nadal got past Andy Murray 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in one semifinal, while Monfils rolled past Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (SAHNG'-guh) 6-1, 6-3 in one of the lead-up events to the French Open.
