WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins have a two-games-to-none lead in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after Phil Kessel provided two goals and an assist in a 6-2 rout of the Capitals in Washington. The game as tied 1-1 in the second period until Sidney Crosby set up goals by Kessel and Jake Guentzel (GEHNT'-sul) 3:10 apart. Marc-Andre Fleury made 15 of his 34 saves in the first period and outplayed Braden Holtby, who was lifted after allowing three goals on 14 shots through 40 minutes.
OTTAWA (AP) — Jean-Gabriel Pageau's (PA'-zhohz) fourth goal of the game gave the Ottawa Senators a 6-5 victory in double-overtime and a two-games-to-none lead in their NHL second-round series with the New York Rangers. The Blueshirts led 5-3 late in the third period until Pageau tallied 2:17 apart to tie the game with 62 seconds left in regulation. He ended it by taking a pass from Alexandre Burrows and firing a shot past Henrik Lundqvist at 2:54 of the second OT.
PHOENIX (AP) — Diamondbacks hurler Shelby Miller will undergo Tommy John surgery that will keep him out until next year. Miller initially was diagnosed with right elbow inflammation and placed on the 60-day disabled list after getting injured last Sunday against the Dodgers. He was 2-2 with a 4.09 ERA in four starts this season.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith have padded their lead at the PGA's Zurich Classic by prolonging their bogey-free run to three rounds in the tournament's new team format. They posted a 4-under 68 to widen their lead to four strokes over two teams. The Kevin Kisner-Scott Brown duo shares second with Nick Watney and Charley Hoffman at 15 under.
LONDON (AP) — Anthony Joshua survived the first knockdown of his career to come back and stop Wladimir Klitschko in the 11th round of their heavyweight title fight before 90,000 at Wembley Stadium. Joshua dropped Klitschko twice and the referee stopped the fight. Joshua retains the heavyweight titles.
