UNDATED (AP) — Two teams, the Spurs and Cavaliers, have completed opening round sweeps in the NBA playoffs to advance to the second round. The Spurs beat the Grizzlies 116-95 on Sunday to finish the series in four, while the Cavaliers last night eliminated Detroit in four straight with a 100-98 win.
HOUSTON (AP) — The good news for the Golden State Warriors and their fans is that the team took a 3-1 series lead over Houston yesterday with a 121-94 victory. The bad news involves Stephen (STEH'-fehn) Curry, who returned to the lineup after missing two games with an ankle injury, only to suffer a sprained right knee forcing him to miss the second half. He is undergoing an MRI today to determine how badly the knee might be injured.
UNDATED (AP) — Three teams advanced to the second round of play in the NHL playoffs yesterday. The Capitals finished off the Flyers in six games while the Islanders disposed of the Panthers in six and the Stars eliminated the Wild in six as well. The Dallas-Minnesota game was a thriller as Minnesota scored four goals in the final period to make it close before losing 5-4.
ST. LOUIS (AP) — The scene is set for Game 7 of the St. Louis-Chicago Stanley Cup playoff series. The Blackhawks have forced the deciding game by winning the last two games in the series. This evening's contest is being played on the Blues' home ice.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Carl Edwards was the winner of the Sprint Cup race in Richmond, Virginia yesterday. The victory is his second straight on the premier NASCAR circuit. He bumped and passed teammate Kyle Busch on the last lap to get the win.
