BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Aston Villa's turmoil has mounted with the sudden resignation of two directors after the club's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

Mervyn King, a former Bank of England governor, leaves the bottom-place club after only two months and ex-English Football Association chairman David Bernstein exits after barely five weeks.

Villa's website said Monday that it was announcing the resignations with "regret."

The end of Villa's 28-year top flight stay was confirmed with a 1-0 loss at Manchester United on Saturday. The former English and European champions still have four games of the season remaining.
