STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi State receiver Fred Brown has been dismissed from the university.
The school released a statement confirming Brown's dismissal on Thursday, but didn't immediately provide a reason for the decision. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound senior played in all 13 games last season and caught 27 passes for 412 yards, which ranked fourth on the team.
Brown was expected to have a substantial role this fall, especially after one of the team's leading receivers last season, De'Runnya Wilson, left for the NFL draft with one year of eligibility remaining.
Brown's dismissal was first reported by the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger.
Mississippi State has its spring game on Saturday.
