MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia quarterback Will Grier won't play for the 15th-ranked Mountaineers in the Camping World Bowl against No. 17 Syracuse, instead focusing on preparation for the NFL draft. Grier announced his decision today in a statement released by West Virginia. The senior joins about a dozen high-profile college players who already have announced they will skip their team's bowl games.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Browns cornerback Terrance Mitchell has been activated from injured reserve after missing eight games with a broken right wrist. Today's move enables Mitchell to be available for tomorrow's game against Carolina. The Browns need Mitchell because rookie cornerback Denzel Ward is out with a concussion suffered last week at Houston.

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan has a concussion and is joining Matt Duchene (DOO'-shayn) on injured reserve. Ryan is out indefinitely and Duchene will miss a week or more with a lower-body injury. Both were injured in Thursday's 5-2 loss to Montreal.

PARIS (AP) — The United States has landed in Group F in the Women's World Cup draw. The defending World Cup champions will be joined in the group by Sweden, setting up a rematch of the Olympic quarterfinal in Brazil, where Sweden advanced on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Afterward U.S. goalkeeper Hope Solo called the Swedes "cowards" for focusing on defense. She was later suspended and U.S. Soccer terminated her contract.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Three Olympic and world champion swimmers have filed an antitrust suit in California challenging governing body FINA's (FEE'-nuhz) control of organizing competitions. It was filed on behalf of Americans Tom Shields and Michael Andrew and Hungary's Katinka Hosszu, after FINA shut down an independent meet in Italy. The legal challenge is the latest faced by Olympic bodies from athletes seeking greater prize money and more say in running their sport.
