WASHINGTON (AP) — The San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals tied for the longest postseason game in baseball history, heading to the 18th inning tied at 1 Saturday night in Game 2 of their NL Division Series.

The game matched the 18 innings that Atlanta and Houston played in the 2005 NLDS.

This game at Nationals Park became the longest — by time — in postseason at nearly six hours. The Braves and Astros went 5 hours, 50 minutes in their marathon.

San Francisco leads 1-0 in this best-of-five matchup.

Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann took a three-hitter and 1-0 lead into the ninth. He was pulled after a two-out walk to Joe Panik, and reliever Drew Storen gave up a single to Buster Posey and an RBI double by Pablo Sandoval. Posey was thrown out at the plate on Sandoval's hit, a call that was upheld on a video review.

The Nationals used nine pitchers in the first 17 innings and the Giants had seven.
