WINTERBERG, Germany (AP) — Francesco Friedrich of Germany retained his two-man bobsled World Championship title on Sunday.
Friedrich and brakeman Thorsten Margis were leading after the first two runs and posted the fastest times in both final heats. They won the title in an aggregate time of 3 minutes, 43.30 seconds.
Driver Oskars Melbardis and Daumants Dreiskens of Latvia shared the silver medal with Johannes Lochner and brakeman Joshua Bluhm of Germany, 1:06 minutes behind the winners. Lochner jumped from fifth to get a share of silver.
Beat Hefti and Alex Baumann of Switzerland had to settle for fourth, 1:22 behind. Won Yun-jong and Seo Young-woo of South Korea were fifth, with Ugis Zalims and Intars Dambis of Latvia finishing sixth after being third following the first two heats.
