TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — For the second time this season, Chase Elliott has won a Sprint Cup pole. He grabbed the top spot for tomorrow's event at Talladega (tal-uh-DEE'-guh) Superspeedway with a lap of 192.661 miles per hour. Austin Dillion qualified second with a lap of 192.424 mph.
SOCHI, Russia (AP) — The pole is set for tomorrow's Formula One race in Sochi (SOH'-chee), Russia. Current F1 points leader Nico (NEE'-koh) Rosberg finished first in qualifying with Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton 10th after another engine failure ended his qualifying session. Rosberg leads the overall world standings by 36 points over Hamilton.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Second-round play in the NBA playoffs begins tonight with a game in San Antonio. The Spurs are playing host to the Thunder of Oklahoma City with the second game set for Monday in the Alamo City. The Spurs swept Memphis in four games while the Thunder needed five games to eliminate Dallas.
UNDATED (AP) — The two NHL playoff games today are being played in Tampa and Washington. This afternoon the Lightning are trying to get home-ice advantage back after losing the first game 5-3. Tonight the Capitals would take a 2-0 series lead over Pittsburgh with a victory in front of the home fans.
CHICAGO (AP) — The three-day NFL draft concludes today in Chicago. Earlier this afternoon the Raiders took Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook with the 100th overall pick. Cook, the winningest QB in school history, watched as six quarterbacks came off the board before he was selected in the fourth round.
