RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Butler has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 71-61 win over Texas Tech. Kellen Dunham scored 23 points for the Bulldogs who also got 11 points from Kelan Martin over the final 8 1/2 minutes. Devaugntah Williams scored 18 points to lead the Red Raiders, who were making their first tournament appearance since 2007.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Marshall Plumlee had a career-high 23 points to lead defending national champion Duke past UNC Wilmington, 93-85, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils stepped up the defensive pressure early in the second half to build a lead after trailing at the break. Fourth-seeded Duke will next play Yale or Baylor.
UNDATED (AP) — The already strong New England passing attack has gotten better. To go along with All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski, the Pats have acquired Martellus Bennett from the Bears. The 29-year-old tight end, who made the Pro Bowl in 2014, has 3,586 yards with 23 touchdowns in his career.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — The National League champion Mets will begin the new season the way they ended last season, with Matt Harvey on the mound facing the Royals. During the World Series, the Mets lost both times Harvey got the start, in Games 1 and 5.
MIAMI (AP) — The top teams in the NBA's Southeast Division are in action tonight. Miami starts the night in first place by a half-game over Atlanta and two games in front of Charlotte. Tonight the Hornets are facing the Heat in Miami while the Hawks are home to Denver.
