TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Destin won the $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby on Saturday, running 1 1/16 miles in the Kentucky Derby prep in a track and stakes-record 1:42.82.

Ridden by Javier Castellano, Destin beat Outwork by a length. Trainer Todd Pletcher trained the top two finishers in the Grade 2 race.

Destin was coming off a victory Feb. 13 at Tampa Bay in the Sam F. Davis Stakes. The colt earned 50 Kentucky Derby qualifying points, and Outwork got 20.

Favored Brody's Cause, the Breeders' Cup Futurity winner, was seventh in the nine-horse field after being bumped at the start.

Destin paid $9.20, $4.80 and $3.60. Outwork returned $5.20 and $4.20, and Star Hill paid $6.80 to show.
