UNDATED (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers took Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series, while the Oklahoma City Thunder knotted its Western Conference semifinal series at a game apiece. LeBron James scored 25 points, had nine assists and grabbed seven rebounds as the Cavs downed Atlanta 104-93. The Thunder were 98-97 winners over the Spurs as Russell Westbrook delivered 29 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Clippers coach Doc Rivers says he would not break up the Los Angeles Clippers' big three of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan during the offseason, regardless of any trade offers. Rivers says he likes the core and bench of the team, three days after the Clippers were eliminated from the playoffs by the Portland Trail Blazers in six games. L.A. dropped the last two games of the series after losing Paul and Griffin to injuries.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins own a two-games-to-one lead over Washington in their NHL second-round series after the Pens held off the Capitals 3-2. Patric Hornqvist and Tom Kuhnhackl scored a minute apart in the opening period before Carl Hagelin (HAG'-lihn) made it 3-0 late in the second. Matt Murray handled 47 shots and was perfect until Alex Ovechkin (oh-VEHCH'-kihn) ended the shutout bid eight minutes into the third period.
BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy will be sidelined for at least a month after fracturing his left foot during yesterday's loss to the White Sox. The three-time Gold Glove winner has played errorless ball over 22 games this season while batting .244 with two home runs and eight RBIs. Manny Machado will likely move from third base to shortstop during Hardy's absence.
AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Brian Stuard has earned his first PGA Tour victory by beating Jamie Lovemark on the second playoff hole at the waterlogged Zurich Classic. Stuard was 15-under through regulation that was cut from 72 to 54 holes because of wet weather. He never bogeyed a hole throughout the tournament.
