ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Freshman Chris Clemons scored 30 points, his second 30-plus outing in four games, and Campbell beat Winthrop 90-83 on Thursday in a Big South Conference opener.
Clemons had a season-best 31 in a 101-82 win over The Citadel on Dec. 19. He was 9-of-18 shooting from the field on Thursday and hit 10 of 11 free-throw attempts.
Troy Harper added 21 points for Campbell (8-5) on 8-of-11 shooting. D.J. Mason had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Kyre' Hamer finished with 16 points and seven boards.
Campbell is off to its best 13-game start since starting the 2011-12 season at 8-5.
Keon Johnson made five 3-pointers, grabbed eight rebounds and tied a career-high with 32 points for Winthrop (9-4), which was 10 of 28 from 3-point range. Roderick Perkins added 18 points and hit three 3-pointers.
