Cal State-Bakersfield cruises past Seattle in WAC tourney

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Kevin Mays scored 18 with a career-high tying five steals, and Jaylin Airington had 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers, to help No. 2 seed Cal State-Bakersfield beat third-seeded Seattle 72-47 Friday night in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals.

The Roadrunners (23-8) will face No. 1 seed New Mexico State (23-9) in the championship game Saturday.

Dedrick Basile added 12 points, all on 3-pointers, and Damiyne Durham scored 11 for Cal-State Bakersfield.

Seattle (14-16) shot just 33 percent (7 of 21) from the field and committed 11 turnovers in the first half as Bakersfield took a 36-22 lead into the break.

The Roadrunners used a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 45-27 with 13:15 left and led by at least 15 the rest of the way.

A 3-point play by Justin Hollins put Bakersfield up by 27, its largest lead of the night, with 3:44 remaining.

Jadon Cohee led the Chieftains with 10 points.
